CrossFit Is…

“Constantly varied functional movement performed at high intensity” or in other words, always-changing workouts comprised of movements that will apply to your everyday life, executed with fervor relative to YOUR fitness level.

Think of CrossFit as skill-based fitness, where it doesn’t matter how skilled you are when you begin, but you’ll constantly be learning! Anyone can run on a treadmill, but how long will that hold your attention? If you crave variety and challenge, then CrossFit is for you.

Whether you’re someone who enjoys team sports or prefers individual sport, CrossFit is for you. It combines the best parts of working on a team – camaraderie, encouragement, and competition – with the best part of working as an individual – building mental fortitude, pushing yourself to your limits, and challenging yourself to improve day after day. And it’s all done under the watchful eye of our knowledgeable coaches who will guide you through the class, help you select appropriate scales, and keep your technique (and ego!) in check.

Our coaches are also there to help keep you SAFE! We start our classes with a short, general warm-up to get your blood flowing and wake up your joints, but we invest the bulk of our “warm-up” time in our Joint Prep. We carefully select our Joint Prep movements to adequately prepare and strengthen the joints and muscle groups that will be working the hardest for the day. Through doing this, we build mobility by way of stability, making your body as resilient as possible.

Each class at SFM will feature a Strength & Technique portion where we’ll spend time building strength, fine-tuning technique or developing skills. That will be followed by the WOD or “Workout of the Day” which could be anything our twisted minds create! You might see running, rowing, jump rope, squats, presses, Olympic lifts, pull-ups, deadlifts, dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls and more – and there are endless combinations of movement variations we can do so you’ll NEVER get bored! And what’s even better? EVERYTHING can be scaled or modified to accommodate varying skills levels, body types and injuries, so CrossFit literally can be for EVERY BODY!
