January News!

🔹🔸HAPPY NEW YEAR!!🔸🔹
We hope everyone had a fun and wonderful holiday season. Let’s make 2019 another great year!

Goal Setting for 2019

The beginning of a new year is prime time to look ahead to the future and figure out what you want to achieve in the coming months! We want to help you stay on track and make your goals a reality, so we encourage you to complete one of our goal setting sheets (if you haven’t already), which you’ll find on the front desk of the gym. We’ll keep those sheets on file so we can check in with you throughout the year to help keep you accountable and to do our part in helping you succeed!

Your goals should inspire you, NOT stress you out! They should drive you, encourage you, and give you something to look forward. A wise man (Bruce Lee) once said,  “A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at”, so keep that in mind as you consider your goals for the year.  Feel free to ask your coaches for ideas if you need guidance!

And in the coming weeks, we’ll release details about opportunities to schedule one-on-one sessions with a coach to help you move even further in the right direction.

Happy Hour – January 18th

Join us for drinks, food and fun for our monthly Happy Hour at Two Beers – Friday, January 18th at 6 pm. Check out the FB event page HERE for any updates as the date approaches.

First Wednesday Visits to Costco

Want to take steps towards eating better this year? Join Greg on the first Wednesday of every month as he leads a guided trip through our local Costco in SODO where he’ll point out what foods are best to promote a healthy diet, and which ones to avoid.

Who are these trips for?
Anyone who has desire to eat and feed their family smart/well but isn’t quite sure how
AND
Anyone without a Costco membership that wants an opportunity to buy in larger quantities to save some $$!!

**The next visit will take place on Wednesday, February 6th – meet at the gym at 5:30 pm if you’re interested in joining. FB event to be posted soon!

**If you’re interested in joining one of these visits, but can’t justify buying in the quantities that Costco sells, please comment on the event page so we can help you find a partner or partners to go in on a “share”.

SFM’s CrossFit For A Cause – February 9th

Mark your calendars – we’re excited to announce that Saturday, February 9th will be our first annual CrossFit for a Cause event!

Here’s the scoop – we’ll be doing our very own special new benchmark workout (think Hero-WOD style), that can of course be scaled to anyone’s abilities. You’ll sign up in advance for a specific heat time, so come early and stay late to cheer on your friends and get to know the wonderful folks of our community.

This will be a charitable event benefitting the homeless community of SODO. Admission to the event will be the donation of specific goods that we’ll be collecting for our neighbors in need. More specifics to be released shortly.

We’ll also have the BodySpec truck here doing DXA Scans. You’ve probably heard us talk about this company plenty as we’ve been big fans of theirs since we were in LA (and Greg was instrumental in getting them to bring a truck to Seattle!) This is a perfect opportunity to “find out what you’re made of” and start tracking your body composition. Progress is not always about the number on the scale, and these scans are a great way to learn about other relevant measurements when it comes to your overall health.

Scans are $45 (and well worth it!) – reserve yourself an appointment time HERE – slots are limited so a reservation is strongly recommended.

**Please note – regular Saturday classes will be cancelled on this date**

CrossFit Open begins February 21st

The Open is like CrossFit Christmas….it’s a time for our community to come together and challenge ourselves. For the 5 week period from February 21st through March 25th, the CrossFit Mothership will release a new workout each week that CrossFitters around the world will do to see where they stack up on the international leaderboard.

While technically the Open is how some elite athletes will be be qualifying for the CrossFit Games, for the rest of us, it’s just a kick ass time to kick our asses with some crazy workouts and hang out with our awesome gym friends 🙂

We’ll be holding Friday Night Lights events every Friday evening from February 22nd through March 22nd (with a big party on the final week) where we’ll do the Open workouts in a fun and encouraging mini-competition style setting. You’ll sign up for a heat, have a judge, give it your all, and then celebrate with a beer (if you so chose). Even if you’re not someone who typically works out in the afternoon, we encourage you to attend these events – they’re an awesome way to get to know more people in our community and we can almost guarantee you’ll push yourself harder on a workout if you’ve got a crowd of people cheering you on! They’ll also essentially serve as a weekly happy hour, if that’s more your speed 😉

Not sure if the Open is for you? The short answer is…YES!! Anyone and everyone of every skill level can and should participate in the Open! There will be scaled options for each workout, so literally everyone can participate and have an awesome time. And at the end of the day, it’s more about having fun than how you perform, so just go for it!!

Online registration for the Open should be launching soon, so stay tuned for more details on that. And Open-prep programming will begin in our classes on January 14th so get ready to conquer new skills, test your endurance, and repeat some old Open workouts from years past!
